The Love Witch

Join Indievents and Club David, Wednesday, May 18, for the South Dakota Premiere of The Love Witch.

The Love Witch is a hot new horror film which made its world premiere at the Rotterdam International Film Festival in January. Written, produced, and directed by Anna Biller, who was also production and costume designer, the film was shot beautifully on 35 mm! The film is getting a lot of attention on the film festival trail and it's very exciting for us to get to screen it so early in its festival run!

Elaine, a beautiful young witch, is determined to find a man to love her. In her gothic Victorian apartment she makes spells and potions, and then picks up men and seduces them. However her spells work too well, and she ends up with a string of hapless victims. When she finally meets the man of her dreams, her desperation to be loved will drive her to the brink of insanity and murder. With a visual style that pays tribute to Technicolor thrillers of the '60s, The Love Witch explores female fantasy and the repercussions of pathological narcissism.

Following the screening, we will have a live audience Q and A via Skype with writer, producer, director, production designer, and costume designer, Anna Biller!

"The Love Witch's colors are blinding, its art decoration, mise en scene and costumes (designed by Biller) are stunning. This is a fiercely intelligent, visionary work and it firmly locks-in Biller in as one of the most exciting filmmakers alive." - SHOCK TILL YOU DROP

"[The Love Witch is] a gloriously seductive feminist work, and a distinctly pleasurable viewing experience." - CINEMATIC INVESTIGATIONS

"I felt like eating the Technicolor visuals with a spoon and when the first Ennio Morricone cue began, well, I was in heaven." -- UK FRIGHTFEST

"The major discovery of Rotterdam 2015 is American Anna Biller, a filmmaker with a powerful personality as a constructor of a neo-feminism that arises from an unusual source: the invocation of retro Hollywood Technicolor, and of genres such as melodrama or classic horror that she deconstructs. Biller presented her world premiere The Love Witch,' a joyous remix of the giallo of Dario Argento and the codes of softcore porn." -- LA VOZ DE GALICIA

"It's a fun, creative, odd and very sexy movie that delivers it in true '60s fashion. If you take the early films of Tinto Brass and spice it up with the incidental humor of "Blood Feast", then you get The Love Witch". -- FILM BIZARRO

The screening will be held at Club David in Sioux Falls on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, and will begin at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance and $12 at the door. You can purchase advance tickets at Club David, Zandbroz, The Last Stop CD Shop, or online at EventBrite (click button below).
