Mar Negro (The Dark Sea)

Join Indievents and Club David, Wednesday, January 14th, for the South Dakota Premiere of the Brazilian horror extravaganza, Mar Negro (The Dark Sea).

This film is very hard to pigeon-hole in one particular sub genre of horror. Writer/director, Rodrigo Aragão's third film is destined to become a future cult classic. The movie starts out with an incident on a boat manned by two small time fishermen. After the incident, we are taken to the small fishing town full of quirky characters. The fishermen unknowingly bring back a weird disease that starts turning the local inhabitants into zombies. (I'm really not going to spoil it by letting you know how the infection spreads.) Mar Negro's small fishing town nightmare almost seems as if it were written by a collaboration between Federico Fellini and a young Peter Jackson (circa Dead Alive). But neither Fellini or Jackson had a transgender brothel/club Madame who takes out zombies with a chain gun. Complete with a score that could have been written for Gilligan's Island, this film has a perfect combination of humor and over the top splatter.

The film is presented in Portuguese with English subtitles. I hope to see you all there! I can't wait to watch this movie with an audience!

The screening will be held at Club David in Sioux Falls on Wednesday, January 14th, 2015, and will begin at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $6 in advance and $10 at the door.
